FROM PIEDMONT TO THE SEA: ON HORSEBACK ALONG VIA MARENCA Fotogalerie
RESORT: Briga Alta, Mendatica, Borgomaro, Tanaro and Arroscia Valleys, Provinces of Cuneo and Imperia LENGTH: 4 days / 3 nights PROGRAMME: 1st day: arrival in the evening at Pompeiana’s Horse Centre, horse accommodation, meeting with the guide and briefing about the programme, accommodation in three-star hotel in Santo Stefano al mare, dinner and overnight stay. 2nd day: breakfast at the hotel; at 9, we’ll see to the transport of both horses and participants to Upega (Briga Alta – CN) with arrival at about 10.30; departure guided tour on horseback through Navette woods and then towards Monte Maccarello (2,200 metres high); at 1.30, packed lunch. Resumption guided tour at 2.30 towards Monesi and San Bernardo di Mendatica (partially on tarmac, mainly on track or wooded path), with arrival by 6. Horse sheltering and accommodation at San Bernardo hotel (2 stars), dinner and overnight stay. 3rd day: breakfast at the hotel; at 9, guided tour on horseback in green pastures and herdsmen’s shelters towards Colle Garezzo (1,795 metres high) and then down along the crest of Via Marenca; at 1, packed lunch; at 2, resumption guided tour toward the stage post, a new refuge with stables, of S. Bernardo di Conio (1,000 metres high – opening Spring 2008) with arrival at 4; horse sheltering and accommodation; self-catered dinner at the refuge with supplies and use of the kitchen; overnight stay. 4th day: breakfast at the refuge; at 9, guided tour on horseback along the panoramic dorsal from Colle d’Oggia to Monte Faudo (about 1,000 metres high); at 1, packed lunch; at 2, descent towards the seaside through Cipressa pine forest, with a view on the whole coast arc; arrival at Pompeiana Horse Centre by 6, animal accommodation, departure.
