The trip
The Upper Tanaro Valley forms a natural bridge between Piedmont and nearby Liguria. A varied zone which from the heights of the Ligurian Alps passes through the gentle hills that overlook the sea, from the dolomitic areas to the karstic zones, from the Alpine vegetation to that of the Mediterranean.
1st day. Arrival in Viozene and ascent to the Mongioie refuge (around 1 hour; disparity in altitude +275 m)
2nd day. Mongioie, balcony between the Alps and the sea
Mongioie refuge - mount Mongioie - Mongioie refuge (about 6 hours; disparity in altitude +1100 m -1100 m)
3rd day. Nature’s trail through the dolomitic area
Mongioie refuge - Carnino - Mongioie refuge - Viozene (about 4 hours; disparity in altitude +400m -400 m). Transfer and accommodation in Upega
4th day. Ring around Bosco delle Navette
Upega - Italian French border - Bosco delle Navette - Upega (about 5 hours; disparity in altitude +950 m -950 m)
5th day. End of tour
