Behind the scenes of the Via Alpina, a team of some fifteen people within Association Grande Traversée des Alpes and the eight national secretariats are contributing to the updating of the website, replies to enquiries as well as the project development from local to international levels.
Their working time, as well as the other project expenses (translations in five languages, computer developments, publications, organisation of events etc.) are currently funded by the participating organisations themselves or their partners – i.e. mostly public sources. Currently for instance no contribution is collected from the municipalities along the trails, since one of the main objectives of Via Alpina is to economically support the stakeholders of sustainable tourism in rural areas. The budget of the international secretariat alone amounts to approximately 50,000 euros per year.
