Vinadio - Valdieri- Valle Stura - Valle Gesso - Alpi Marittime (CN)
5 days/4 nights
Five days in the Maritime Alps Nature Reserve, with hikes among the wonderful lakes of Valscura, Claus and Portette. A protected area which impressed so much King Vittorio Emanuele II when he visited Gesso Valley in 1855 that the mayors decided they would grant him hunting rights in the area, and is characterized by more than 80 small Alpine lakes and an extraordinary botanical richness, with over 2600 species of flowers and plants.
The journey includes a visit to King Albert’s Fort of Vinadio, a rest at Valdieri Spas and a hike to Juniperus Phoenicea Reserve, where Phoenician juniper, a typically Mediterranean shrub, found an ideal environment. In the reserve one finds all types of tectonic units characterizing Western Alps, and the geological aspect, together with its peculiar microclimate, makes the area a typical portion of Mediterranean coast in the Alps.
